Getting to your Boat - Flights, Ferries and Transfers
Getting to Ireland
There are a number of ways to reach your boat. If you're coming from mainland Europe you can take a Ferry from France or Britain, or you can fly to Ireland with most major airlines - there are links below and banners on the page to help you to decide the best option.
All of the cruiser companies offer a transfer service to their marinas, but be aware of the location of the marina so that you can choose the best airport. There's information on the transfer services provided.
Shannon Airport services only marinas on the southern Shannon - Shannon Castle Line in Williamstown, Emerald Star in Portumna and Carrick Craft and Silverline in Banagher.
Belfast airport services Carrick Craft in Tully Bay and Manor House Marine in Killedeas near Enniskillen.
Dublin airport services all boat hire marinas. If you take a Ferry you can drive to all of the marinas from Dublin port. The travelling time is generally between 2 hours and 3.5 hours.

Getting to your Boat
All of the cruiser companies offer a private transfer or shared transfers to their marinas. The private transfer is your own private bus that will collect you at the airport and take you directly to the marina. This is the more expensive option, costing an average of €250 for a single trip for up to eight persons but can be more cost effective for larger groups.
The shared transfer takes passengers from several flights to marinas on the river and there may be a delay while they wait for other flights to arrive. They try to keep this delay to under an hour and usually succeed, but the first transfer of the day is usually at about 12 noon unless there are several early flights. The cost of the shared transfer varies but will cost about €35 per person for a single trip (airport-marina OR marina-airport).
Because of the rural location most of the marinas on the Shannon and Erne are poorly served by public transport. Carrick-on-Shannon is served by direct train and bus connections from Dublin, but all other marinas require bus connections or a bus and then a taxi journey.
It's often worthwhile to hire a car for the duration of your cruise - this is
dependant on crew numbers, the duration of your cruise and the time of year. You
can get a competetive car hire quote at our Car Hire page. If you're arriving early or staying in Ireland after your cruise
you can compare hotel information at lastminute.ie
or at ebookers.ie
