Places of Interest

The old fortifications around the town of Banagher are good examples of fortifications from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. Also the old Martello Tower is elliptical, with a mounting for a 24 pounder gun on the roof.

Angling Information

Banagher is home to the Coarse Angling Centre, which holds annual competitions in April, May, September and October each year. The river at Banagher fishes well for bream, rudd, hybrids, pike, perch, eels and some brown trout. There is some salmon fishing, and visitors are encouraged to hire boats and explore the waterways of the area.

Other good sites in the area are Meelick which has islands, pools and weirs, Brosna and Little Brosna rivers.
